🥁🪶This study presents the design and optimization of a coherent terahertz (THz) transition radiation (TR) system at the PBP-CMU Electron Linac Laboratory. Electron beams (up to 22 MeV) are optimized using ASTRA simulations to generate coherent TR from short bunches via an aluminum foil radiator. The system achieves 352 fs bunch length and sub-millimeter transverse sizes.
✨TR properties—angular distribution, polarization, and spectral bandwidth—are analyzed using detectors and interferometry. A 27-meter transport line using Gaussian beam optics, ABCD matrix methods, and THzTransport code achieves 80–90% efficiency, with broad spectral range 0.3-2 THz.
✨The setup delivers broadband, high-efficiency TR ( 0.17–0.25 µJ pulse energy) for THz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) applications.💡
