🐳🫧This research studies the simulation of electron beam dynamics in a linear accelerator to produce electron beams with ultrashort bunch length, which can be used to generate high-brightness terahertz undulator radiation. The study found that an accelerator with a thermionic cathode electron source can produce high-brightness free-electron laser radiation in the terahertz range by using the accelerator system at the PCELL laboratory, which consists of a thermionic cathode RF electron gun and three electron bunch compression processes: the initial bunch compression using the PCELL RF electron gun and alpha magnet, velocity bunching in the linear RF accelerator, and bunch compression in a 180-degree bunch compressor magnet system. This enables the production of electron beams with femtosecond bunch length and high charge density that can generate high-brightness terahertz undulator radiation with sub-microjoule energy, comparable to accelerators using photocathode electron sources, which typically require a higher development budget. 🙆‍♂️🗳️
