“IR-FEL & Ultrafast Lasers”: A Thai Innovation Elevating Cutting-Edge Research

This issue of REFORM introduces readers to the PBP-CMU Electron Linac Laboratory (PCELL), also known as the Electron Linac Laboratory. with the vision to become a central laboratory for the application of electron accelerators, infrared free-electron lasers (IR-FEL), and ultrafast lasers in cutting-edge and applied research. These include applications in spectroscopy, laser-based material modification, and the study of ultrafast interactions at the frontier of science and technology.

Most of the equipment in this laboratory has been designed and developed in-house by a team of Thai researchers and students. The laboratory has also established over two decades of research collaboration with universities and institutions both domestically and internationally. Key international partners include those from the United States, the Federal Republic of Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and many others. These long-standing partnerships have positioned the laboratory as a pioneering facility in the field of electron accelerator and laser-based research—the first of its kind in Thailand and among the ASEAN countries.
