On September 7, 2023, Associate Professor Dr. Duangmanee Wongratanapaisal, Acting Director of the Center of Excellence in Physics, along with a team of experts under the Center for Electron Accelerators and Infrared\/Terahertz Free Electron Laser Experts, to strengthen Thailand's frontier research ecosystem, welcomed Professor Hideaki Ohgaki, an expert in particle accelerator systems and applications from Kyoto University, at the linear electron accelerator research laboratory. They visited the experimental station for electron accelerators and discussed collaboration in developing an optical cavity system for generating mid-infrared free-electron laser (MIR-FEL) light.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Center for Electron Accelerators and Infrared\/Terahertz Free Electron Laser Experts is supported by research and innovation funding from the National Research Council of Thailand, driven by the Center of Excellence in Physics to enhance Thailand's cutting-edge research ecosystem. The aim is to advance and elevate scientific research, focusing on human resource development and positioning as a central hub for high-level personnel in ASEAN in the field of free-electron lasers. The center will promote and facilitate the exchange of personnel with potential collaboration networks domestically and internationally to transfer technology and knowledge, creating high-value innovations from electron lasers. The MIR and FIR\/THz radiation produced by electron lasers has properties suitable for advanced research and applications, enabling the study of complex systems, which remain limited even internationally. This will establish new analytical techniques, pioneering in the country and the ASEAN community, generating high-potential knowledge. It aims to provide opportunities for researchers in the country and the ASEAN community to access advanced experimental tools and techniques, leading to advancements in medicine, adding value to agricultural and food products, forensic archaeological research, and valuable cultural research. Additionally, the industry sector will benefit from increased capacity to support industrial research, creating various innovations and contributing to the country's economic development through the relationship between science and industry. This also enhances the potential of Thai personnel in various professions, such as scientists, particle accelerator physicists, engineers, and skilled technicians.<\/div>\n
